The Confessions of Edward Day by Valerie Martin Goodreads synopsis:
Acclaimed author Valerie Martin returns with a dark comedy about love, sex, an actor's ambition, and the perils of playing a role too well.
In this fictional memoir, Valerie Martin brilliantly re-creates the seamy theater world of 1970s New York, when rents were cheap, love was free, and nudity on stage was the latest craze. Edward Day, a talented and ambitious young actor finds his life forever altered during a weekend party on the Jersey Shore, where he seduces the delicious Madeleine Delavergne and is saved from drowning by the mysterious Guy Margate, a man who bears an eerie physical resemblance to Edward. Forever after, Edward is torn between his desire for Madeleine and his indebtedness to Guy, his rival in love and in art, on stage and off.
I bought this after reading and loving two of Valerie Martin's other novels. I read Property at the beginning of last year, and then Mary Reilly earlier this year and absolutely loved both of them, so when this one came out in paperback I went straight out and got it. Unfortunately though, I haven't had time to read it just yet. I'm hoping to be able to read it when my first semester at University is over and I've finished all my assignments. I'm hoping I'll have a little time at Christmas free from university work, so fingers crossed you will all be reading a review of this one some time around the new year!
Valerie Martin's writing is beautifully composed and absolutely compelling. I implore anyone reading this that hasn't read any of her stuff yet, to go out there and get her books. I recommend starting with property and going from there.

I've read Property and also have Mary Reilly- you kindly gave me that one :D I have seen The Confessions of Edward Day in the bookshops, but I have to admit it didn't really grab me. The cover is stunning though. I hope you get round to reading it soon. Maybe your review will sway me into reading it!
