Friday has rolled around yet again, and that means it's time for another Friday Recommends!
I have tried to choose something a little different for this week's recommendation to the books that I've chosen before, and I think I've chosen the perfect one.
blueeyedboy by Joanne Harris
Waterstone's synopsis:
'Once there was a widow with three sons, and their names were Black, Brown and Blue. Black was the eldest; moody and aggressive. Brown was the middle child; timid and dull. But Blue was his mother's favourite. And he was a murderer.' Blueeyed boy is the brilliant new novel from Joanne Harris: a dark and intricately plotted tale of a poisonously dysfunctional family, a blind child prodigy, and a serial murderer who is not who he seems. Told through posts on a webjournal called "Badguysrock", this is a thriller that makes creative use of all the multiple personalities, disguise and mind games that are offered by playing out a life on the internet.
This novel is absolutely breathtaking! An up-to-date, modernized epistolary novel, this gives the
story a unique style that allows for the anti-hero's deceptive and creative traits to be fully recognized.
Just 150 pages from the end of the novel (without trying to give anything away), comes a chilling realisation that even as the reader we have been entirely deceived by the narrator, and that just as we feel we're finally getting to know him, it turns out that we don't know much about him at all.
A compelling and thrilling novel that will keep you on your toes throughout, blueeyedboy will keep you sitting on the edge of your seat and holding your breath. Definitely not a straight-forward read, but certainly a highly recommended read.
Have you read blueeyedboy? What did you think of it? Let me know in the comments!

I still have this one to read, even though you and Julie both said it was good!!! One day I will get round to it lol.
xxxx
It's really good - a little disturbing in places, but extremely gripping!!
I really hated the main character but still enjoyed the book, which is a rarity in itself haha :P xx
Oh wow, I just got the chills reading your review! Hmm will have to have a look at this at the bookshop tomorrow.
Definitely let me know if you decide to get it Toni! I would be really interested to hear what you thought of it! :)
I picked this up at the market a few weeks ago, been after it for ages. Can't wait to read it now.x
Wow! That blurb just straight away makes you want to read this!
Sam, do let me know when you've read it - I'd be intrigued to hear what you thought!
And Jodie, it really does! I waited ages for it - I wanted it when it first came out in hardback, but I don't buy hardbacks unless I absolutely can't wait to read something. And then I won't buy the larger paperbacks either because they're both too large and too expensive - so it was a long time coming. Definitely worth the wait though!
Dani :)
I have read this and will be publishing my review soon!
I have to read this! Sounds like just my kind of book. Thank you very much for the review!
