I tend to have a fairly large wishlist, mostly because I have a fairly large book collection already and I wouldn't have anywhere to put them!! Eventually though, I will have them on my shelves!
So this feature will list these books weekly for your enjoyment!
Dark Souls by Paula Morris
Goodreads synopsis:
Welcome to York, England.
Mist lingers in the streets.
Narrow buildings cast long shadows.
This is the most haunted city in the world. . . .
Miranda Tennant arrives in York with a terrible, tragic secret. She is eager to lose herself amid the quaint cobblestones, hoping she won’t run into the countless ghosts who supposedly roam the city. . . .
Then she meets Nick, an intense, dark-eyed boy who knows all of York’s hidden places and histories. Miranda wonders if Nick is falling for her, but she is distracted by another boy — one even more handsome and mysterious than Nick. He lives in the house across from Miranda and seems desperate to send her some sort of message. Could this boy be one of York’s haunted souls?
Soon, Miranda realizes that something dangerous — and deadly — is being planned. And she may have to face the darkest part of herself in order to unravel the mystery — and find redemption.
I was drawn to this book because of it being a fantasy novel set in the north of England. It's not very often that I find a fantasy novel set somewhere that I might recognise - they are usually set somewhere in America, and whereas I do enjoy these novels, this makes a nice change. The idea for the plot itself also sounds like it may be fairly unique - vampires and werewolves dominate this genre too much now, so I think hauntings is a fairly nice subject for a change.I was also drawn to this novel, forgive me for saying, by its cover. I know we should never judge a book by its cover, but the design for this one is very appealing, and immediately showcases the atmosphere of the novel.
It's definitely one for my wishlist, and I hope that it is now one for my readers' too!
