Soulless by Gail Carriger
Waterstone's synopsis:

Alexia Tarabotti is labouring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette. Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire - and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate. With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Or will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart? SOULLESS is a comedy of manners set in Victorian London: full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking.

I have been meaning to read this one for ages! I have the first three in the series on my shelves now, but I haven't read any of them. I'm not sure I can really explain why I haven't picked them up and read them yet - they sound like exactly the kind of thing I'd love, and Jenny from Chocolate Chunky Munkie absolutely loves them, and we have incredibly similar reading tastes, so I have no doubt in my mind that I will really enjoy them. Definitely a series I am going to have to get round to starting very soon!

Have any of my other readers read this? Let me know what you thought in the comments!

Sounds like my cup of tea! Can't believe I never even picked up this book since I kept seeing it. Let me know what you think of it once you do get around to it!

Also, just letting you know that I've grabbed your button. :)

Ha ha you are right I love these books! The main character Alexia Tarabotti is a brilliant character. I've read all four in the series and I can't wait until May 2012 until Timeless (#5) comes out. I'd never read any steampunk until these, and I think it's a brilliant idea! The Victorian era with a twist.

I'm currently reading Dearly,Departed by Lia Abel and this is the same sort of thing. I would recommend that too!!

Love Jen xxx

Ohh I was so tempted to buy this book when I seen it in The Works!

That's where I got it from! And I got the third one in the series there. Had to order the second one from the book depository though because The Works didn't stock it for some reason.
