Wishlist Wednesday #208

Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop where we will post about one book per week that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added (it's entirely up to you), that we can't wait to get off the wishlist and onto our wonderful shelves.

So what do you need to do to join in?
  • Follow Pen to Paper as host of the meme.
  • Please consider adding the blog hop button to your blog somewhere, so others can find it easily and join in too! Help spread the word! The code will be at the bottom of the post under the linky.
  • Pick a book from your wishlist that you are dying to get to put on your shelves.
  • Do a post telling your readers about the book and why it's on your wishlist.
  • Add your blog to the linky at the bottom of this post.
  • Put a link back to pen to paper (http://www.pentopaperblog.com) somewhere in your post, and a note saying that Pen to Paper is the host of the meme.
  • Visit the other blogs and enjoy!

Illuminae
by Amie Kaufman

Synopsis:
This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.
I suppose I am a little bit cheating on this week's Wishlist Wednesday because this book is on my Christmas list (and hopefully that means I will be getting it later this month). But I figured that seeing as it's December now, we're allowed to talk about the books we're wishing for for Christmas.
I have been looking forward to Illuminae for a very long time ... especially because this is not a story told in straight prose, but in letters, logs, diary entries etc ... that kind of thing. I LOVE stories like that, books that are more interactive, that feel much more like a discovery of your own.
It also sounds like exactly the kind of story I would love – it's set in the future, in space (and on another planet) and things are going very wrong. I'm so freaking excited to read this book and I know it's going to be one of the first I choose off the Christmas pile!

What's on your wishlist this week? Let us know in the comments below, or link to your own Wishlist Wednesday post in the Linky :)

The cover of this is GOOOORGEOUS. It's waiting for me to read it in my many stacks of books... I keep meaning to, but get distracted with other things! Alas, so it goes--here's hoping you get this for Christmas, and enjoy the read!
