Wishlist Wednesday #55

Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop where we will post about one book per week that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added (it's entirely up to you), that we can't wait to get off the wishlist and onto our wonderful shelves.

So what do you need to do to join in?
  • Follow Pen to Paper as host of the meme.
  • Please consider adding the blog hop button to your blog somewhere, so others can find it easily and join in too! Help spread the word! The code will be at the bottom of the post under the linky.
  • Pick a book from your wishlist that you are dying to get to put on your shelves.
  • Do a post telling your readers about the book and why it's on your wishlist.
  • Add your blog to the linky at the bottom of this post.
  • Put a link back to pen to paper (http://www.pentopaperblog.com) somewhere in your post, and a note saying that Pen to Paper is the host of the meme.
  • Visit the other blogs and enjoy!

The Native Star
by M. K. Hobson

Goodreads synopsis:
In the tradition of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, this brilliant first novel fuses history, fantasy, and romance. Prepare to be enchanted by M. K. Hobson’s captivating take on the Wild, Wild West.

The year is 1876. In the small Sierra Nevada settlement of Lost Pine, the town witch, Emily Edwards, is being run out of business by an influx of mail-order patent magics. Attempting to solve her problem with a love spell, Emily only makes things worse. But before she can undo the damage, an enchanted artifact falls into her possession—and suddenly Emily must flee for her life, pursued by evil warlocks who want the object for themselves.

Dreadnought Stanton, a warlock from New York City whose personality is as pompous and abrasive as his name, has been exiled to Lost Pine for mysterious reasons. Now he finds himself involuntarily allied with Emily in a race against time—and across the United States by horse, train, and biomechanical flying machine—in quest of the great Professor Mirabilis, who alone can unlock the secret of the coveted artifact. But along the way, Emily and Stanton will be forced to contend with the most powerful and unpredictable magic of all—the magic of the human heart.

I heard about this one a little while ago, on another BookTuber's reading wrap-up video. She said that she'd really enjoyed it, and recommended it. As soon as she started reading out the synopsis though, that was when I knew I had to get it on the Wishlist!
I've recently become a little infatuated with 'Wild West' stories, and I'm especially excited about the Fantasy twist in this one. It's almost like a Steampunk novel, but set in America, rather than Britain, which I think could be very interesting. I also have a bit of thing for stories about witches. And all other things aside - that cover is just beautiful.
I'm pretty sure that this is going to be very different to anything else I've read, but also something I'm going to really enjoy. It's definitely at the top of my Wishlist!

What do you think of this book? Have I convinced you to add it to your Wishlist, as well?
What's at the top of your Wishlist this week? Let us know in the comments below, or link to your own Wishlist Wednesday post in the Linky below :)

This looks pretty awesome! I actually have Jonathan Strange on my bookshelf but haven't read it yet. I love the idea of historical fantasy, though.

Some fantasy books I'm ok with but I'm not crazy about Historic books. The two together is probably a bit much for me. I will probably pass on this one.

Wowee I was hooked from the moment I read Wild, Wild West! I don't read much books set in that time period but I am obsessed with the PS3 game Red Dead Redemption where I actually think I'm a cowboy (geeeek) haha, so as soon as I read this blurb I knew that it was being added to my wishlist (and the price quickly checked on amazon!). I probably haven't read anything quite like this but I really am interested! I think you should buy this asap! And what a cover, it's definitely one to buy as a paperback just to look at its pretty cover! :)
