The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
Waterstone's synopsis:
Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

This was one of the first eBooks I got for my kindle, and it has been on there, unread (along with the other two) since. I keep thinking that I should probably read it, but I just never get around to it. I've heard that you have to get past the first 100 pages for it to start getting exciting, so I think this is what's stopping me from starting it, although I know it shouldn't. I think it's possibly going to have to be my challenge read for next year - I'm sure it will be something I will enjoy once I've started it.

Have any of you read this? What did you think of it? Let me know in the comments (but don't give anything away!!) :)

I loved this book Dani, I hope you get chance to get around to it soon, it is a really good read, as is the second book in the trilogy, though I found the third book a bit heavy going. x

I agree- you have to read this, it's so good. It's true what they say though, you do have to plow through the first 50 odd pages of politics and detailed character descriptions before it starts getting good. Read it soon- before the film comes out. Enjoy!

I enjoyed the whole series. But I admit I gave up on the first book at page 50. Then a friend told me to try it again so I did, and once I got past the first 100 pages it was brilliant!! The swedish film versions were really good too :D

I absolutely adored this series. However, they are quite intricate, detailed and full of politics, so they do take awhile to plow through. I would suggest reading all three in order right after each other to keep yourself from forgetting the many plot details!
