In my Mailbox #9

I know I did a video blog post for In my Mailbox last week, which I hope you enjoyed watching as much as I enjoyed making it for you all. This week I have had plenty of eBooks come my way, but not as many physical books, so there isn't much sense in me doing a video post this week. Sorry guys - I'm sure you won't miss me that much though!
I shall start, as always, with the physical books I got this week.

The Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
Goodreads synopsis:
Featuring necklaces made of wishes; an underground shop dealing in teeth; magical tattoos; a wishbone on a cord, DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE is a thrilling story about Karou and her secret life as an apprentice to a wishmonger. Karou manages to keep her two lives in balance. On the one hand, she is a seventeen-year-old art student in Prague; on the other, errand-girl to an inhuman creature who deals in wishes and is the closest thing she has to family. Her life is surrounded by mysteries she is desperate to unveil.

I've wanted this one since before it came out, but only decided to get it today. I was going to wait until after Christmas to get it because I don't know what books others have decided to get me - but while I was at work, I noticed that the editions we had in were special editions - signed, numbered limited editions, of which on 1500 exist! I got number 181!
So I'm pretty happy that I managed to get this one to be honest.

Out for Blood by Alyxandra Harvey
Goodreads synopsis:
Hunter Wild is the youngest in a long line of elite vampire hunters, a legacy that is both a blessing and a curse at the secret Helios-Ra Academy, where she excels at just about everything. Thanks to her friendship with Kieran Black, Hunter receives a special invitation to attend the coronation of Helena Drake, and for the first time, she sees the difference between vampires that must be hunted and vampires that can become friends—or even more. When students at the academy fall victim to a mysterious illness, Hunter suspects they are under attack from within. She will need someone she can trust to help her save the future of Helios-Ra . . . help that shockingly comes in the form of Quinn Drake, a drop-dead gorgeous vampire. Who said senior year would be easy?

This is the third in the Drake Chronicles series, and for those that watched my IMM video last week, you will know that I received an eBook of the fourth in the series from the publishers. I didn't have, and haven't read the third one though (and I actually haven't read the second yet), so I thought I'd better get cracking!

And now for the eBooks. I had four e-galleys accepted from Harpercollins on Netgalley this week, which I'm really excited about - they are a great haul! I also have a couple more to share with you.

Hallowed by Cynthia Hand
Goodreads synopsis:
For months part-angel Clara Gardner trained to face the raging forest fire from her visions and rescue the alluring and mysterious Christian Prescott from the blaze. But nothing could prepare her for the fateful decisions she would be forced to make that day, or the startling revelation that her purpose—the task she was put on earth to accomplish—is not as straightforward as she thought. Now, torn between her increasingly complicated feelings for Christian and her love for her boyfriend, Tucker, Clara struggles to make sense of what she was supposed to do the day of the fire. And, as she is drawn further into the world of part angels and the growing conflict between White Wings and Black Wings, Clara learns of the terrifying new reality that she must face: Someone close to her will die in a matter of months. With her future uncertain, the only thing Clara knows for sure is that the fire was just the beginning.

Described by Richelle Mead as “utterly captivating,” Unearthly received outstanding reviews, garnered accolades from New York Times bestselling authors, and was named an Indie Next Pick. In this heart-wrenching sequel, Cynthia Hand expertly captures the all-consuming joy of first love—and the agony of loss. This beautifully woven tale will appeal to fans of Lauren Kate, Becca Fitzpatrick, and Aprilynne Pike.

This is the first galley I had accepted from Harpercollins, and it is the second in the Unearthly series, the first of which I have to read, and shall be reading some time over the Christmas period. It looks like a particularly good YA fantasy series, so I'm really looking forward to picking both of them up soon!

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
Goodreads synopsis:
Aria is a teenager in the enclosed city of Reverie. Like all Dwellers, she spends her time with friends in virtual environments, called Realms, accessed through an eyepiece called a Smarteye. Aria enjoys the Realms and the easy life in Reverie. When she is forced out of the pod for a crime she did not commit, she believes her death is imminent. The outside world is known as The Death Shop, with danger in every direction.

As an Outsider, Perry has always known hunger, vicious predators, and violent energy storms from the swirling electrified atmosphere called the Aether. A bit of an outcast even among his hunting tribe, Perry withstands these daily tests with his exceptional abilities, as he is gifted with powerful senses that enable him to scent danger, food and even human emotions.

They come together reluctantly, for Aria must depend on Perry, whom she considers a barbarian, to help her get back to Reverie, while Perry needs Aria to help unravel the mystery of his beloved nephew’s abduction by the Dwellers. Together they embark on a journey challenged as much by their prejudices as by encounters with cannibals and wolves. But to their surprise, Aria and Perry forge an unlikely love - one that will forever change the fate of all who live UNDER THE NEVER SKY.

This sounds like a really unique and interesting new fantasy novel. I'm really enjoying books like this at the moment - books that take the reader completely out of the world they know and put them in a new reality. I will definitely be bumping this up the review pile!

Incarnate by Jodi Meadows
Goodreads synopsis:
NEWSOUL
Ana is new. For thousands of years in Range, a million souls have been reincarnated over and over, keeping their memories and experiences from previous lifetimes. When Ana was born, another soul vanished, and no one knows why.

NOSOUL
Even Ana’s own mother thinks she’s a nosoul, an omen of worse things to come, and has kept her away from society. To escape her seclusion and learn whether she’ll be reincarnated, Ana travels to the city of Heart, but its citizens are suspicious and afraid of what her presence means. When dragons and sylph attack the city, is Ana to blame?

HEART
Sam believes Ana’s new soul is good and worthwhile. When he stands up for her, their relationship blooms. But can he love someone who may live only once, and will Ana’s enemies—human and creature alike—let them be together? Ana needs to uncover the mistake that gave her someone else’s life, but will her quest threaten the peace of Heart and destroy the promise of reincarnation for all?

Jodi Meadows expertly weaves soul-deep romance, fantasy, and danger into an extraordinary tale of new life.

This is one that I've seen on loads of other blogs recently, but hadn't had a proper look at, so when I saw it on Netgalley, I requested it from Harpercollins as soon as I saw it. I'm not sure I'll get to reviewing it before the new year, but it does sound like quite a good read - and it has a really beautiful cover. It's just a shame that you can't see the book covers when you're reading eBooks!

Everneath by Brodi Ashton
Goodreads synopsis:
Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.

She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.

As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's...

This is the last eBook I got from Harpercollins this week. I think I possibly the most excited about this one out of all of the ones I got from the publishers this week. It sounds like just the kind of thing I'd really enjoy, so this will definitely be another of my reads for over the Christmas period!

Enduring Light by Carla Kelly
Goodreads synopsis:
She leaned toward him and rested her elbows on the brass rail at the foot of her bed. “All right, cowboy, just when did you fall in love with me? I’m definitely curious now.”
He regarded her in the moonlight. “I knew I was a no-hoping goner when I caught that ridiculous hat of yours on the platform at Gun Barrel.”
Julia sucked in her breath. She tried to be severe. “Mr. Otto, nobody falls in love that fast!”
“I did,” he said simply, as he left her room.

Julia Darling is finally able to marry Paul Otto for eternity. But it’s a harsh world for a rancher in turn-of-the-century Wyoming, especially a Mormon rancher. When alienation and threats begin, Julia must prove she’s her husband’s equal in strength and endurance as she learns to let go of scars on the outside and inside.

Bestselling author Carla Kelly has woven a new story of a determined rancher, his wife, and how they discover the depths of love.

This is the last one that I got from netgalley this week. It's the second in a series, so I'm going to have to get hold of the first one and read that first.
It looks like something a little different from what I'd usually read for review on my blog, so I'm really looking forward to giving it a go!

Blood Sisters by Michelle Scott Goodreads synopsis:
Starla had always imagined that becoming a vampire would make her popular, glamorous and wealthy. But after she and her best friend, Jordan, become undead, Starla realizes one thing: a vampire's life sucks.

Since there's no turning back, she tries to make the best of her situation, but it isn't easy. Especially not after her friend abandons her to serve the oldest, most powerful vampire in the city. Or when she gets on the bad side of a gang of vampires who've taken over the zoo. Or when she meets a really cute boy and ends up falling in love, only to find out that there's a major problem...she's a vampire, and he's a vampire killer
.

For those of you that have been observant while on my blog, you will know that earlier in the week, Michelle paid us a visit at Pen to Paper, which was really wonderful. I am also currently hosting a giveaway of her wonderful Straight to Hell, the review for which can be found here. You can also click here to view the interview and international giveaway with Michelle.
I enjoyed Straight to Hell so much that I thought I'd get another of her eBooks, so I bought this from Smashwords shortly after posting the interview. I'm really looking forward to seeing what her other books offer!

BeSwitched by Molly Snow
Goodreads synopsis:
When a magical black cat, Surla, runs away from her bombastic witch, Idis, she has no idea that she will soon be living as a teenage girl, confronting both the mean girls and the popular—and very cute—guys of Washington High on a daily basis.

While Surla may look like Cathy, her peers notice a dramatic change in her personality when she starts standing up for herself, dressing differently, snagging dates, and picking up strange habits.

Meanwhile, the witch, Idis, is a flaming red-haired fury as she awkwardly tries to fit into society. She must hunt down her familiar in order to be able to continue performing spells.

In spite of their circumstances, Surla and Cathy learn more about themselves and gain great self esteem by being each other. Not only this, but the usual drama and young love in high school life is kindled in BeSwitched as Todd, the handsome quarterback, shows sincere interest in Cathy. The "curse" of being BeSwitched winds up being the most purr-fect secret these new best friends could ever have!

This is one I got from Molly as part of the BeSwitched blog tour (the image for which can be found under Upcoming events on the right side of my page). I will be interviewing Molly, as well as hosting a giveaway as part of the tour, but I am really hoping to be able to fit this in for a review during the tour as well. Keeping my fingers crossed!

So that's pretty much all for this week's In my Mailbox. Fingers crossed I'll have some more books to share with you next week!
What did you get through your mailbox (or virtual mailbox) this week? Let me know in the comments! :)
